Online Casino Craps
HISTORY
There are several theories on the history of Craps. One take
is that in ancient times rolling of bones was done to divine
the will of the gods, and that from this evolved both dice and
various dice games (including Craps). Another take has the game
evolving from an early Arab game passed through England, France
and North America.
On one point all historians seem to agree, Craps was brought
over to North America from Europe in the early 1700's. The game
was first played on riverboats in the United States and then
moved west with the frontier as the country grew.
There are two general types of Craps played today - “Street
Craps” and “Bank Craps”. Street Craps is
the variety you would find being played in informal settings.
The betting is simplified, and someone must cover the bet
in order for the game to progress. Bank Craps on the other
hand is the form played in casinos. The betting is more complicated
and the house covers the bets (banks the game) so the players
are in effect playing against the house.
STRATEGY
As with all casino games the long term odds (over thousands
of games) favors the house. With Craps the casino advantage
is very small however, so it's possible to turn a nice profit
on a lucky day. Most players don't play for the extended periods
of time that it takes to establish long term odds, so we will
look at short term odds are for winning at Craps.
The game of Craps is played with two six sided dice. This results
in 36 number combinations being available. The least likely
number combinations total 2 (1,1) and 12 (6,6). The most likely
combination total is 7 which can be made 6 ways (1,6), (2,5),
(3,4), (4,3), (5,2) and (6,1). The other totals, 3 to 6 and
8 to 11, can be made with more than 1 combination but less than
6 combinations.
A scientific look at the odds of winning would be difficult
to explain and take a lot of fun out of the game. However,
as most people like to win lets take a quick and simple look
at the available wagers and your better chances of winning.
